For a Single Purpose: Ruth III (2013)
Hey, hey, now. Welcome back to the 28th art story of the day, from the For a Single Purpose series, Ruth III. In this post, we will discuss the last segment of Ruth executed in a mosaic like form collage placed on plyboard. This is my biggest piece yet, it is over 2 feet by 3 feet. It took about 16 hours to complete a piece each one (Whew!). As you also know, if you are following along , all of the original pieces posted on this blog are up for sale. In every sale, a portion of the proceeds goes towards the Cassondra Lenoir Scholarship Foundation. The Cassondra Lenoir Scholarship Foundation is a scholarship for first generation minority college students. Investing in this work of art today, will not only add to your art collection, but help a student enroll in college. Click here for more information.
How did you come up with the idea of collage?
Well, before I answer your question, I want to start with the story of Ruth. Ruth was a woman who had faith in a God that she did not know and because of her tenacity, she received favor and got married despite losing a husband. Focusing on the God of Israel, help her to grieve and as a result God took care of everything for her including the desires of her heart. I do not think she was a complainer or those words will spread around and her reputation would have been ruined.
Anywho, to address your question, I came up with the idea of collage due to this being the third phase of Ruth and the third part of the Godhead is the Holy Spirit. In scripture, the Holy Spirit brings old creatures into new works and this work was made out of multiple strips of old magazines adhered together to make a new image. Similar to the men in authority series, this series was also completed in three different ways and had a total of 33 works.
Ruth got what she wanted and more!
So yes, the moral of this story is stay focused on God and He’ll give me the desires of my heart. Of course!
