Men in Authority:Higher than him, Nothing but up (3)(2013)
Thank you so much for coming. In today’s art story of the day, I will be discussing Nothing but up, part three . As you know, all artwork posted on this blog are for sale and a portion of its proceeds goes towards the Cassondra Lenoir Scholarship Foundation, for first time-generation college students. Click here on how you can help make a difference in a student’s life by purchasing this work of art. In this piece I have made from old t-shirts into a new work of art using felt strips stitching felt strips onto cloth to create an image. I didn’t have much time, but yet but a lot of my time was used. Thus, my time was used wisely that’s which is why I set a deadline because it made me conscious of the time. As you can see, some of the pieces have been cut large due to that short time factor. If time was not an issue, there would be a lot more mosaic like images stitched on.
How long did it take to make this piece?
It took me roughly 16-20 hours per week to complete one of these works before the deadline. I was staying up a few nights and because I did not have a television to distract me, it was done. It’s also very difficult when you’re stitching pieces of class together to make an image is to actually create something that’s three-dimensional with cloth. It is textured already, but I mean in terms of showing the composition of the work and it doesn’t look so flat. So I had to create some sort of outline, kind of like a cartoon, in order you know to separate the face from the the neck . If I didn’t do that, it would look like this one big blob, so juxtaposing pieces together and creating outlines was an important part in making this original piece of work.
